DCR manages and oversees approximately 450,000 acres throughout Massachusetts. DCR's mission is to protect, promote, and enhance our commonwealth of natural cultural, and recreation resources. Due to current societal and economic conditions, DCR-managed properties have become popular areas in which encampments tents, huts, and temporary sheltering from the weather have been set up. The public health concern that is accelerated within the unsheltered are mental health, substance use, social isolation, physical health, and financial precarity.
